This Lords Bill would give the UK government power to enable same-sex marriages in certain British Overseas Territories. It provides a framework for these territories to change their marriage laws accordingly and for related changes to be made to other laws as needed. It does not automatically legalise same-sex marriage across all territories, but creates the process for individual territories to decide and implement such changes.
The bill has completed its first reading in the Lords and has not yet advanced to further stages. If it progresses, it would move to subsequent readings and scrutiny in the Lords and then to the House of Commons.
