The Pets (Microchips) Bill would set out rules about microchips in pets and how those chips should be used and managed. It aims to help identify and reunite lost pets and to clarify the responsibilities of owners, veterinarians and other organisations handling microchip data. It also allows for related provisions to be addressed under connected purposes.
The bill is currently at the Second Reading in the House of Commons. It has had its First Reading in July 2022 and its Second Reading on 24 March 2023.
