A Bill to amend the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 to prevent landlords recovering service charges where they have failed to comply with their disclosure obligations under that Act; to commence section 21A of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 insofar as is it not already in force; to require landlords to disclose commissions earned on insurance policies; and for connected purposes
House of Lords
31 October 2023
This bill would make leasehold charges more transparent by requiring landlords to disclose service charges and the commissions they earn on insurance policies. If landlords fail to meet disclosure rules, they would not be able to recover those charges. It would also commence Section 21A of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 to extend protections for tenants where that provision is not yet in force.
Currently at the 1st Reading in the Lords, in the early stages of parliamentary consideration and awaiting further stages such as Committee.
