House of Commons
30 October 2008
This Bill would remove the option of issuing fixed penalty notices for disorder in cases of theft from shops and other crimes against business. In practical terms, theft from retail premises would no longer be eligible for fixed penalties under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001; offences would instead be dealt with through standard criminal proceedings and penalties.
The Bill is at the second reading in the Commons. If it passes this stage, it will go to Committee stage, then Report and Third Reading, before moving to the Lords for consideration.
