This bill aims to stop anyone who has not properly discharged duties relating to child sexual abuse offences from holding any elected or public office, or any post paid for by Parliament. It would disqualify anyone convicted of child sexual abuse offences from office and would allow for the removal of a peerage for those convicted. In short, it strengthens safeguards so that people with such offences cannot hold or keep public positions.
The bill is at the 1st reading stage in the House of Commons, having been introduced on 18 April 2023 and has not yet moved to committee or subsequent stages.
