To require simple, uniform nutritional labelling on the front of packaged foods; and for connected purposes
House of Commons
17 November 2008
Food Labelling (Nutrition and Health) Bill would require simple, uniform nutrition information on the front of packaged foods so shoppers can compare products at a glance. It aims to help people make healthier choices and to provide a clear framework for implementing front-of-pack labelling, with the details to be set out later. The bill also covers related provisions needed to put the scheme in place.
The bill is at Second Reading in the House of Commons, where MPs consider its general principles. If it progresses, it would move to committee stage for detailed scrutiny and then continue through the usual stages in both Houses.
