The International Higher Education and Research Bill [HL] would introduce an international element into the UK's higher education and research and broaden course options. It aims to support international collaboration and partnerships between UK universities, researchers and global partners, through new powers and arrangements.
The bill is at the first reading in the Lords. If it progresses, it will move to the Second Reading in the Lords and then through the usual committee and report stages before going to the House of Commons for consideration.
In related proceedings, Labour and other non-Conservative parties generally supported the bill, while the Conservative Party opposed; there were mixed positions among other parties on amendments.
