A Bill to require the coroner, following an inquest, to record an opinion as to the relevant factors in a case of death by suicide; and for connected purposes.
House of Lords
29 May 2024
If this bill becomes law, after every inquest into a death by suicide the coroner would have to record an opinion about the factors that were relevant to the death. The aim is to spell out what may have contributed to the suicide and to help families, health services and policymakers understand and respond.
The bill is at the 1st Reading in the Lords. If it progresses, it would move to subsequent stages (Committee, Report) in due course.
