This bill would require the Secretary of State to publish each year calculations showing how much benefits and tax credits a representative household would need to afford meals that meet the Eatwell Guide, i.e. a healthy diet. It uses the cost of healthy eating as the benchmark for welfare payments and aims to make benefit levels more transparent and responsive to dietary costs.
The bill is currently at the second reading in the House of Commons, having completed the first reading. It would move on to further scrutiny if it progresses.
