A Bill to provide that a draft statutory instrument which is subject to the affirmative resolution procedure may be amended by either House of Parliament before it is approved; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
Sir Christopher ChopeConservative
12 February 2025
This bill would let either House of Parliament amend a draft statutory instrument that uses the affirmative resolution procedure before it is approved. In other words, MPs or Lords could suggest changes to the instrument while it is still in draft form, before final parliamentary approval is given. The requirement that the instrument be approved under the affirmative procedure remains in place.
The bill is currently at the 2nd Reading in the House of Commons; it will next move to the Committee stage for detailed consideration, followed by further readings and passage to the Lords.
