This bill changes the rules so the General Medical Council can consider a complaint about a doctor's fitness to practise even if the most recent related events happened a long time ago. It aims to close gaps in the current regime and ensure historic concerns can be investigated to protect patients and maintain high professional standards.
The bill has had its first reading in December 2023 and is now at the second reading in the Commons; further stages will follow if it progresses.
