The Family Visas (Minimum Income) Bill would stop the government from increasing the minimum income threshold used for family visa applications. In effect, it locks in the current financial rule for bringing family members to the UK and related issues, rather than creating new thresholds. It does not lower the rule, but prevents any future rises in it.
The bill has completed its first reading and is now at the second reading in the House of Commons. It originated in the Commons and is sponsored by Mr Alistair Carmichael.
