A Bill to require providers of electronic communications networks to grant access to their apparatus to other such providers in certain circumstances; to prohibit the installation of new electronic communications apparatus where services can be provided by sharing apparatus; and for connected purposes.
The Bill would require network providers to share their physical infrastructure with other providers in certain circumstances and would stop new infrastructure from being built if existing shared infrastructure could supply the service. The aim is to promote competition and make better use of existing telecoms networks.
The Bill is at its second reading in the Commons. If it progresses, it will move to the committee stage for detailed scrutiny, then return to the Commons for report and third reading before going to the Lords.
