The Children (Parental Imprisonment) Bill would require the government to set national guidelines for supporting children who have a parent in prison. It would also require identifying these children at the point a parent is sentenced and creating accountability for delivering that support.
The bill is at the 2nd reading stage in the House of Commons. It completed the 1st reading in May 2024 and will move to the committee stage next.
