This Bill would require local authorities to publish information about looked-after children who are placed at a distance from their home area, and to develop and publish sufficiency plans to meet their duties under the Children Act 1989. It would also require the Secretary of State to publish a national plan showing how many suitable distance placements are needed for looked-after children. The aim is to improve transparency and planning around out-of-area placements for looked-after children.
The bill has completed its first reading and is at its second reading in the Commons, with the next stage scheduled for 28 March 2025. If it progresses, it would move to committee stage and then onward through the usual passage.
