If enacted, the bill would require the Government to publish a Regulatory Impact Assessment for every piece of primary and secondary legislation it introduces. It would also provide sanctions for failing to publish or comply with the RIAs, along with related provisions to make the regime work. The aim is to improve scrutiny and transparency of new laws.
The bill had its first reading in the Commons in October 2024 and is now at its second reading in the Commons (scheduled for 17 April 2026).
