The Green Belt (Protection) Bill would create a nationwide register of Green Belt land in England and tighten the rules against removing land from the Green Belt. It would also set out how development would be handled on land that has been de-designated. The overall aim is to strengthen protection for Green Belt land from new building.
The Bill is currently at the second reading stage in the House of Commons and is sponsored by Sir Christopher Chope; if it progresses, it would move on to the next stages of consideration.
