This Bill updates lasting powers of attorney to better protect people who may lose capacity. It introduces duties for banks and care homes in relation to LPAs, expands the Office of the Public Guardian's power to investigate an attorney's conduct, and requires the donor to notify the OPG when they die. It also requires the Secretary of State to review how effective those investigations are and to promote easier access to the OPG's registers.
The Bill is at the second reading in the House of Commons. After this stage it will proceed to Committee Stage for detailed scrutiny, followed by Report Stage and Third Reading, before moving to the Lords.
