The Bill aims to strengthen how the UK regulates its food markets. It would extend and clarify the powers of the Groceries Code Adjudicator, require closer coordination with the Agricultural Supply Chain Adjudicator, and set rules on public procurement of British food and on food labelling. The overall aim is to improve fairness, transparency and accountability across the food supply chain.
Currently at the Second Reading in the House of Commons, the bill is in the early stages of its passage through Parliament.
