To make it a requirement for the providers of goods and services and the providers of specified facilities enabling the purchase of such goods and services to take reasonable steps, in certain circumstances, to establish the age of customers making such purchases remotely; and for connected purposes.
House of Lords
17 January 2011
The Online Purchasing of Goods and Services (Age Verification) Bill would require providers of online goods and services, and platforms that enable online purchases, to take reasonable steps to confirm a customer’s age in certain remote transactions. The aim is to strengthen age checks for online purchases and help prevent access to age‑restricted goods and services by younger buyers.
The bill is at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons, having originated in the Lords. If it progresses, it will move through further readings and committee scrutiny.
