This bill would require the government to publish a draft negotiating mandate for international trade agreements and to obtain Parliament’s approval of that draft before starting any talks. Parliament would also be able to amend the draft mandate before negotiations begin, giving Parliament greater control and scrutiny over trade negotiations and the resulting deals.
