The Fuel Poverty Bill would require the government to run an energy efficiency programme to upgrade existing homes to current energy efficiency standards. It would also place a duty on energy suppliers to offer social tariffs to help vulnerable households cope with high energy bills, and strengthen the government’s legal duty to end fuel poverty.
The bill is currently at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons; if it progresses, it would move through committee, report, and third reading stages before potentially passing into law.

This Bill has since been dropped by its spopnsor Mr David Heath.
