This bill proposes removing Crown immunity for prisons so they must follow standard health and safety laws. In effect, prisons would have to comply with the same safety duties as other workplaces, protecting staff, contractors and prisoners. The aim is to ensure health and safety rules apply consistently inside prisons.
The bill completed its first reading in the Commons on 22 July 2025 and is currently at the second reading stage in the Commons.
