This Bill would set energy efficiency and energy usage targets for different sectors of the economy, to be achieved by 2020. It would also set a target of 20 per cent of electricity to be generated from renewables by 2020, together with targets for microgeneration and combined heat and power generation.

The Climate Change (Sectoral Targets) Bill would set sector-by-sector targets for energy efficiency and energy use across the economy, to be achieved by 2020. It would also require that 20% of electricity be generated from renewables by 2020, with additional targets for microgeneration and for combined heat and power generation. The bill would include provisions to ensure these targets are met.
The bill is currently at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons; further parliamentary stages have not yet begun.
