A Bill to rename council tax benefit council tax rebate; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
20 October 2009
This Bill would rename the support known as 'Council Tax Benefit' to 'Council Tax Rebate' and make related changes to the law so the new term is used consistently. It is primarily a naming exercise and does not, on its face, introduce major policy changes to how the benefit works.
The Bill is at the 2nd Reading in the House of Commons. If it passes this stage, it would move to Committee Stage for detailed scrutiny, followed by further readings and consideration by the Lords.
Generated 21 February 2026
This Bill was on the Order Paper for a Second Reading debate on 16 October.
However, the Order for Second Reading lapsed as the Bill had not been printed and can make no further progress.
No recorded votes for this bill yet.
