This bill would allow some residents living in care homes to keep a domestic pet, subject to certain safeguards. It aims to recognise the benefits of companionship from pets while protecting residents, other residents, staff and animals by setting rules on when a pet can be kept, how it should be cared for, and who approves it.
The bill is currently at the 2nd Reading in the Commons. If it progresses, it would move to detailed scrutiny in Committee, followed by Report and Third Reading, and then to the Lords for consideration.
