The Bill would allow the Secretary of State to designate certain areas as flood plains. In those areas, the Environment Agency could veto new development, and planning authorities would have to follow the Agency’s advice when considering development on flood plains. The aim is to reduce flood risk by restricting building in high‑risk areas.
Currently at the second reading in the Commons. If passed, it would move to committee stage for detailed scrutiny, then proceed to the Lords for consideration.
