A Bill to apply the provisions of the Gangmasters (Licensing) Act 2004 to the construction industry; and for connected purposes.
The Bill would amend section 3 of the Gangmasters (Licensing) Act 2004 so that the provisions of the Act would apply to the construction industry.
House of Commons
1 May 2012
This Bill would extend the Gangmasters Licensing Act 2004 to the construction industry by amending section 3 so the Act’s licensing rules apply to construction workers and the agencies that supply them. The aim is to help protect construction workers from exploitation and unsafe recruitment by bringing labour providers and hiring firms under licensed, standards-based oversight. It places construction within the same regulatory framework already used in other sectors.
The bill is currently at the second reading in the House of Commons, where MPs discuss the general principles. If supported, it would move on to detailed scrutiny in Committee.
