A Bill to make provision that persons receiving a training wage are exempt from legislation relating to the minimum wage; and for connected purposes.
The Bill would provide that anyone entitled to the national minimum wage, as defined in the National Minimum Wage Act 1998, would lose that entitlement if they had entered into a written contract of employment offering them a training wage and training from the employer in skills relevant to the employment.
The Training Wage Bill would remove a person’s entitlement to the national minimum wage if they sign a written contract offering them a training wage with on-the-job training. In effect, someone who signs such a contract would be paid a training wage for the skills training provided by their employer.
The bill is at the 2nd reading in the Commons and is at an early stage of passage.
