A Bill to make provision to require certain public bodies to dispose of unused or under-used assets by public auctions; and for connected purposes.
The Bill would require central government Departments, executive agencies, non-Departmental public bodies, NHS bodies and public corporations to make an annual declaration of any of their tangible fixed assets that were unused on 1 January each year and the length of time those assets had been out of use. They would then be required to offer for sale at public auction any tangible fixed assets that had been out of use for more than one year.

This bill would require certain public bodies to declare each year which tangible fixed assets are unused as of 1 January and for how long they have been out of use. If an asset has been out of use for more than a year, the body must offer it for sale at a public auction. The goal is to recover value from idle assets and reduce waste in public organisations.
The bill is at the 2nd reading stage in the House of Commons. If it progresses, it would move to further scrutiny and subsequent stages in Parliament.
