This Bill would create a formal mechanism to hold people with parental responsibility to account for any criminal sanctions imposed on the young person they oversee. In short, parents or guardians of young offenders could face consequences connected to the offences committed by the child, under defined rules, with related powers and duties.
The bill is currently at the Second Reading in the House of Commons, following its First Reading on 5 July 2010. If it progresses, it would move to committee stage and then to further readings in both Houses.
