A Bill to provide for an annual Taxation Freedom Day to reflect the proportion of tax paid by individuals from their income; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
1 May 2012
The Taxation Freedom Day Bill would create a yearly Taxation Freedom Day to reflect the share of an individual’s income that is paid in tax. It would set out how this date is calculated and apply to people’s income tax, with provisions for related purposes connected to the idea of a tax burden being transparent through a annual marker.
The Bill is at the 2nd Reading in the House of Commons. If it progresses, it would move on to further scrutiny in Committee stages; the Amendment Paper indicates some early parliamentary consideration.
