The Recall of Elected Representatives Bill would allow voters to recall their elected representative before the end of their term in certain circumstances. It would set out how a recall could be triggered, how the recall process would run, and any safeguards to ensure fairness. The aim is to give voters a formal mechanism to hold their representatives to account between general elections.
The bill is currently at the second reading in the House of Commons. If it progresses, it will move on to committee stage for detailed examination and then to further readings in both Houses.
