This Bill would repeal sections 132 to 138 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005, which currently govern police authorisation for demonstrations near Parliament. By doing so, it would remove the special authorisation regime for protests around Parliament and return the area to a less regulated framework for demonstrations. It also covers any connected provisions needed to implement the repeal.
The bill has completed its first two readings in the Lords (first on 11 Oct 2010 and second on 10 Jun 2011) and is thus at the 2nd reading stage in the Lords. No further stages are listed here.
