This bill would change the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964 to require library authorities to provide related cultural facilities in addition to their library services. In effect, it broadens what local libraries are expected to offer to include museums or other cultural amenities as part of their duties. The aim is to create a more connected cultural provision at the local level.
The bill has had its first reading in December 2010 and is currently at the 2nd Reading stage in the House of Commons.
