A Bill to provide for the extension of Christmas Day restrictions on the opening of retail premises to Remembrance Sunday; and for connected purposes.
House of Lords
2 May 2012
The Remembrance Sunday (Closure of Shops) Bill would extend the existing Christmas Day restrictions on shop opening hours to Remembrance Sunday, limiting when retail premises can trade on that day. The aim is to support Remembrance Sunday observances by reducing trading activity. The bill is currently in the Lords, and the House has discharged the Order of Commitment, allowing it to move forward.
The Bill remains in the Lords. With the Order of Commitment discharged, it can proceed to further stages in the Lords; it has not yet been sent to the Commons.
Generated 21 February 2026
On 5 December, the Bill reached committee stage in the Lords.
However, no changes were suggested to the Bill so the Bill goes directly to third reading. This procedure is known as "order of commitment discharged".
The 2010-12 session of parliament has prorogued and this Bill will make no further progress.
No recorded votes for this bill yet.
