The Resource Extraction (Transparency and Reporting) Bill would require certain oil and gas producers and mining companies to publish the payments they make to national governments or government‑owned entities. It would require reporting the type of payment and its total amount, with the aim of making resource revenues more transparent and enabling public scrutiny of public finances.
The bill is at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons. It will next go to the committee stage for detailed examination, before progressing to report stage and the third reading, and then to the Lords for consideration.
