A Bill to make provision for the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the Common Fisheries Policy
House of Commons
1 May 2012
The Common Fisheries Policy (Withdrawal) Bill would take the United Kingdom out of the European Union's Common Fisheries Policy and set up a framework for UK fisheries policy after withdrawal. It would convert key EU fisheries rules into UK law to maintain continuity, while giving UK Ministers power to create and adjust post-Brexit fishing rules, quotas and access arrangements. The bill is a step in implementing the UK's post-Brexit approach to managing its seas and fishing industry.
Currently at the second reading in the House of Commons, the bill is in the early stages of passage and would next move to committee stage, then on to subsequent readings and consideration by the Lords.
