The Remembrance Day (Bank Holiday) Bill would create a new UK-wide bank holiday on the Monday after Remembrance Sunday, with effect from 2012. It would govern how this day is treated in terms of holiday entitlements and pay, along with any related provisions needed to implement the change. The aim is to honour Remembrance while giving workers an additional day off each year.
The Bill is currently at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons. If it passes this stage, it would move to committee scrutiny and then, if approved, continue to the Lords.
