The Adoption (Leave, Pay and Allowance Arrangements) Bill would bring adoption leave, pay and related allowances in line with maternity provisions. It would make adoptive parents eligible for leave and pay on the same basis as parents with babies, set the same basic pay rate for the first six weeks of adoption leave as for maternity leave, and extend certain allowances to self-employed adopters in the same way as self-employed mothers.
