The Football (Financial Transparency) Bill would require clubs playing in the top four tiers of English and Scottish professional football to reveal who owns the club, who owns the club’s home ground and training ground, and any intellectual property linked to the club or third parties with a stake in its players. It would also require the identities of outstanding creditors to be disclosed, and if a club goes into administration, all creditors must be paid equally. The aim is to improve financial transparency, accountability and fairness in football finances.
The bill is at its Second Reading in the House of Commons. If approved, it will move to Committee Stage in the Commons and then to further stages in the Lords.
