MP for Doncaster North
Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero
“A long-serving Labour MP and former party leader who now shapes energy policy as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.”
Ed Miliband is the Labour (Co-op) MP for Doncaster North, first elected in 2005. He has held a number of senior roles in government and opposition, including Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change (2008–2010) and Leader of the Labour Party (2010–2015). Since July 2024 he has served as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, guiding the government’s energy and climate priorities.
Ed Miliband shows near-total party loyalty (100%) and relatively steady attendance (54%), with only one recorded rebel vote. He sits on the centre-left of the spectrum. In voting on key topics, he generally supported welfare expansion (Universal Credit) and NHS funding, while opposing tighter immigration controls and harsher asylum policies; he has voted in favour of regulating bus services and taken mixed positions on VAT and trade union powers. He has opposed the Rwanda deportation scheme and, in 2018, voted against a National Policy Statement and New Runway Capacity against his party’s majority.
